Breast Enlargement – Choosing correct size for long lasting result
Breast enlargement using implants is a very popular procedure in women from 20-45 years of age. It is a very safe procedure particularly in expert hands and in a healthy patient who has realistic expectations. Choosing correct implant size is a challenging task. Although many women prefer natural result and are happy to seek one or two cup size increase, others demand much larger enlargement. A good way to estimate the size of implant is by measuring the base diameter of breasts and extent of skin/ muscle stretchability. Other methods include sizing by trying different size implants under a non padded bra to experience the feel and look of an implant. 3 D PhotoImaging and Computer morphing allows us to visualise the approximate postoperative appearance by choosing different size implants. An Implant that is much larger than the base of the breast in patients with tight skin and muscle envelop may have unnatural appearance and with time has more risks of deformity, capsular contracture, implant displacement and excessive tissue stretching. In people with lax skin and saggy breasts, it may be possible to go beyond the diameter of the breast to some extent, but long term consequences can result in unnatural looking breasts. It also increases chances of reoperation in a patients lifetime.
